Latest company news about Nitrogen generators provide a continuous, on-site supply of high-purity nitrogen for the steel processing industry.

Nitrogen generators provide a continuous, on-site supply of high-purity nitrogen for the steel processing industry. Acting as an inert gas, nitrogen is primarily used to displace oxygen—preventing destructive oxidation during high-temperature operations and lowering operating costs compared to liquid or bottled gas.

Key Steel Processing Applications
  • Heat Treating & Annealing: Nitrogen creates a controlled, oxygen-free atmosphere for processes like annealing, tempering, and hardening. This eliminates scaling and discoloration on the steel's surface, improving overall product quality.
  • Laser Cutting: High-purity nitrogen serves as an assist and purge gas. It blows away molten material, prevents edge burning, and stops oxidation, resulting in a clean, smooth cut ready for powder-coating or welding.
  • Furnace Purging & Blanketing: Used to safely purge explosive or reactive gases from furnaces before and after operations. It also acts as a protective blanket over molten metal or chemical baths.
  • Galvanizing & Tinning: Protects the metal surfaces during continuous hot-dip galvanizing lines, ensuring uniform zinc coating and preventing surface defects.
  • Sintering & Powder Metallurgy: Prevents rust and oxidation during the sintering of metal powders, resulting in a stronger, sturdier, and more precise alloy component.

In steel processing, nitrogen is commonly used for:

  • Heat treatment and annealing — creates protective atmospheres that reduce oxidation and scaling.
  • Blanketing and purging — removes oxygen and moisture from furnaces, pipelines, and storage systems.
  • Laser cutting — high-purity nitrogen helps produce cleaner cuts with less oxidation.
  • Galvanizing and coating processes — supports atmosphere control and surface quality.
  • Process efficiency — on-site generation lowers logistics costs and minimizes supply interruptions.

Most industrial nitrogen generators use either pressure swing adsorption (PSA) or membrane separation technology, with purity levels selected based on process requirements. Higher-purity applications, such as laser cutting or specialty steels, often require stricter nitrogen specifications.
